Matthew has hit 2 of his 3 goals. He is gaining weight (at 5 lbs 3.9 ounces tonight) and maintaining his body temperature. All he has to do is start eating.
Because Matthew seems to be having a hard time getting milk from the breast, we've decided to give him expressed milk in a bottle. For his 2 PM feeding, he took 12 ml by bottle. For his 8 PM feeding, he was up to 17 ml (about half an ounce).
In order for Matthew to come home he has to take at least 2 feedings by mouth for each shift in a 24 hour period. His feedings are 47 ml ( 1.5 ounces) Our goal is to get Matthew home as soon as possible. If that means being attached to a pump for a year, so be it. The nurse believes he'll be home in the next 2 weeks. All we have to do is get him to eat. If he starts eating he'll be home in a day or two.
